The Owners’ Rights Initiative (ORI) issued the following statement today in support of Supap Kirtsaeng’s petition, which asks the Supreme Court to overturn the 2nd Circuit’s denial of his attorneys’ fees. Executive Director Andrew Shore made the following statement:
“Supap Kirtsaeng, a college student, overcame tremendous odds to defeat publish behmouth John Wiley and Sons. Wiley and Sons used and abused the legal system to destroy Kirtsaeng financially and now it’s time for him to be made whole,” said Shore.
“A ruling against Kirtsaeng will only lead to more frivolous litigation against those exercising their lawful rights under the Copyright Act. It will continue to incentivize giant corporations like Wiley and Sons to use their power and money to harangue and harass individuals and small businesses capitalizing on the free market.”
